I brewed this Belgian brown firstly in 2012 this year it has evolved slightly in its use of candied sugars to improve the flavour and mouth feel. A beer I designed to age in the bottle. So why not buy a few and set them away for those special days when you have time to savour a beer.

    Preference: 4 (1=0 2=0 3=0 4=1 5=0)
Comments: www.bocq.be, www.marksandspencer.com The Gallic rooster, with its bold stance and lifted claw, was adopted by the Walloon movement in 1913 and is now the official symbol of southern Belgium's Walloon Region. Ingredients: water, malted barley, maize, hops, yeast. Before the days of refrigeration, snow and ice were taken from the mountains to chill the cellars during lagering. To serve keep the glass slightly sloping and pour gently so that the yeast - evidence of the secondary fermentation - remains in the bottle.

  22. Beer: St Feuillien Brune Réserve (bottle)
    Type: Abbey-style Double Beer
    Strength: 8.5%
    Brewer: Friart
    Country: Belgium
    Description: Colour=Red brown, Malty=Yes, Hoppy=No, Effervesce=Yes, Other=Very fruity and creamy with a dry finish
    Preference: 4 (1=0 2=0 3=0 4=1 5=0)
Comments: www.st-feuillien.com Served in a large wide wine glass. This brown ale has a marked ruby brown colour with a generous and lasting head. It has a distinctive aroma reflecting the wide range of ingredients used in its production. The fruitiness resulting from its fermentation blends harmoniously with a dominant liquorice and caramel flavour. The body is decidedly malty. The bitterness is the result of a complex alchemy between the fine hops and special malts used. These give St Feuillien Brune a typical dark chocolate appearance.

Comments: www.haacht.com, tongerlo.be Contains barley malt. Genuine abbey beer refermented in the bottle, with refined touches of vanilla. The aftertaste surprises with the subtle bitterness of dark chocolate. Yeast is added just before Tongerlo is bottled; it is then stored for conditioning for at least 2 weeks at 22C. After 2 weeks, Tongerlo’s Master Brewers taste the beers matured, rich and complex flavours, and only then the beer is approved for sale. The initial sweet aroma of vanilla gives way to rich, hoppy notes, finishing with the delicate bitterness of dark chocolate. Just like wine, Tongerlo’s flavours will continue to evolve in the bottle and become even more rounded over time, so try a bottle now and save some for later to discover your perfect bottle of Tongerlo.
