Preference: 4 (1=0 2=0 3=0 4=1 5=0)
Comments: www.alkenmaes.be Brewed for the chez Léon mussels/French fries chain, and also for the Brussels Airlines. Léon beer is pale and full-bodied. It has been specially concocted by Master Brewer Jean Pagura in collaboration with the Alken-Maes brewery to create a delicious combination to go together with the Belgian and Brussels dishes served at chez Léon. This beer is unique because it can only be tasted at chez Léon in the rue des Bouchers where it is served in a large, round glass, specially designed for it. It is the result of a clever mix of pale malts, spring and winter barley and rare hops from Germany and the UK. It derives its whole personality from a final addition of sweet and sour orange peel. This Belgian high fermentation beer is served from the barrel and is 7.2%. It is brewed at Jumet in the installations at the ancestral Union brewery.

Brewer: Brasserie de l'Abbaye des Rocs
Country: Belgium
Description: Colour=Dark red, Malty=Yes, Hoppy=No, Effervesce=Yes, Other=Rich sweet dark fruit taste with a smooth finish
Preference: 4 (1=0 2=0 3=0 4=1 5=0)
Comments: www.abbaye-des-rocs.com Triple fermentation. Natural beer with yeast, pure malt and hop. Abbaye des Rocs is a pure malt beer, with no added sugar. The entire range of tastes is directly linked to the double fermentation, the precise quantities of malts (7 types) as well as the mixtures of three kinds of hops (Belgian, German and Czech). Its colour is a striking deep and majestic red. Its taste is rich and full of subtlety. It is tasted like a red wine with which it shares the ruby colour without having the tannin. It develops a strong sweet smell. It confirms the initial impression in the first mouthful, with a sharp body that is balanced with a certain fruitiness. It frees itself on the palate and develops an impressive depth of taste. Some traces of burnt wood are detectable, but never scorched even if it contains this kind of malt. The foretaste is very prolonged because of its rich and unctuous development throughout the mouth. The bitter and sugar tendencies (even though there is no sugar in its composition) compete and come back together to the taster's great satisfaction. It is a deep, mystic and extremely mature beer to be classed among the great products of our soil. Store cool and dark. Serve at 12-14C.

Description: Colour=Orange, Malty=Yes, Hoppy=Yes, Effervesce=Strong head, Other=Smooth fruity taste with a sour finish
Preference: 3 (1=0 2=0 3=1 4=0 5=0)
Comments: www.hetanker.be This full-tasting, but deceptively drinkable, amber ale has a good fruitiness and a nice hop edge which tempers the caramellised malt. It is clean and precise, within an almost perfect balance of Challenger and Goldings hops, grown exclusively in Belgium. For centuries the Mechelenians drank their own ‘amber’ coloured city beer: ‘Mechelschen Bruynen’. They drank the beer from Mechelenian buckets, glasses with a content from half a litre to more than 1 litre. And because our brewery is so deeply anchored in tradition, we are the only ones who brew this beer until this day. The recipe has its origin in the 14th century. The present version is a little more heavy and contains more hops. The balance between the different malts, the fine hops and typical tastes of spices creates a perfect harmony between the powerful taste of brown beers and the freshness of the blond beers. This fresh aromatic and pithy light-brown drink can be served cool.

Preference: 3 (1=0 2=0 3=1 4=0 5=0)
Comments: www.hetanker.be Origin: Gouden Carolus Hopsinjoor completes the taste pallet of the gamma Carolus-beers. Name: ""Hopsinjoor"" is a wordplay to for one thing the several hops which were used, and on the other hand the typical character of Mechelen of Gouden Carolus: the figure ""opsinjoor"" is intertwined with the history of Mechelen (see: www.opsinjoorke.be/Opsinjoorke/opsinjoor.htm). Kind of hops: 4 types of hops are used: Golding, Spalt, Hallertau and Saaz. These hops were fractioned at several times in the cooking process in order to keep a maximum of aroma. Regarding to taste we can say that the beer has a gentle, but nevertheless bitter aftertaste. Gold-yellow colour. Hoppy aroma. 50 IBU / 18.6 Plato Gouden Carolus Hopsinjoor was launched in 2008 on the Zythos Beer Festival and hit the mark: the visitors elected it as best beer, bringing Het Anker: The Consumer’s trophy Zythos Beer Festival 2008. Description: Colour=Yellow, Malty=Yes, Hoppy=No, Effervesce=Yes, Other=Fruity, dry, smooth and slightly yeasty
Preference: 3 (1=0 2=0 3=1 4=0 5=0)
Comments: www.hetanker.be Ingredients: water, barley malt, sugar, hops, yeast. Refermented in the bottle. The inspiration for this brew originates in the night of January 27th in the year 1687. The moon projected its reddish glow on Saint Rumbold’s tower, which was wrapped in a dense fog. “Fire, fire, the tower is on fire!” shouts the dreary voice of a drunken man. The alarm was sounded and people were making haste to help extinguish the so-called fire. Before the tower was reached, the moon slowly moved through the fog. From that moment on, the Mechelenians are called the Maneblussers or “Moon extinguishers”. To commemorate their heroic deed, we brew a heroic beer called The Maneblusser. A blonde beer with an alcohol percentage of 6 % VOL. Brewed according to the traditional method of high fermentation with refermentation in the bottle. For the heroic Mechelenians, but not exclusively of course.

Colour and sight: Amber colour. Compact head and lace. Scent: Fruity, caramel malt and spicy. Flavour: First impressions are softly sweet with a caramel touch. This is followed by a spicy note of coriander combined with pepper. Comments: www.palm.be PALM Ale has long been one of Europe’s top-selling specialty beers. Made with English hops, French Barley, and Belgian yeast, PALM represents the best of European beer-making traditions. It’s the roasted Champagne Malt which gives PALM its amber color, but without being heavy. Also available bottle-conditioned as Palm Hergist.

Beer: De Lelie Paus (bottle)
Type: Belgian Ale
Strength: 8.5%
Brewer: Scheldebrouwerij (for Brouwerij “De Lelie”)
Country: Belgium
Description: Colour=Yellow, Malty=Yes, Hoppy=No, Effervesce=Yes, Other=Strong and warming yeasty taste with a spicy finish
Preference: 3 (1=0 2=0 3=1 4=0 5=0)
Comments: scheldebrouwerij.nl Inhoud: water, gerst, hop, gist. Best fris drinken 8-12C.
