Brewer: Hunter's Brewery (for Blueberry Brothers)

Comments: www.theblueberrybrothers.co.uk Ingredients: water, malted barley, malted wheat, hops, yeast and blueberry extract. Bottle conditioned, hand brewed, unfiltered. A well balanced refreshing beer with a hint of blueberry. Store upright and pour gently. Best served at room temperature. Brewed and bottle conditioned in Devon. Working with Paul Walker of Hunter’s Brewery we are very pleased to have won a Silver Award in the 2013 Taste of The West Awards. Following a trip to New England earlier this year to talk to some of the American brewers of blueberry beer, we have returned to using blueberry concentrate. Whilst using berries sounds like a good idea, in practice it is incredibly hard to brew a consistent beer. With Paul’s brewing knowledge and excellent facilities, the consistency we have been seeking has been achieved along with the delicate balance in taste between a good quaffable beer but with just enough of a hint of blueberry to make it interesting. As a bottle conditioned beer we recommend that it is chilled for no more than 30 minutes.

  9. Beer: Floris Kriek (Florisgaarden Griotte) (bottle)
    Type: Fruit Beer
    Strength: 3.6%
    Brewer: Huyghe
    Country: Belgium
    Description: Colour=Dark red, Malty=No, Hoppy=No, Effervesce=Yes, Other=Strong cherry taste
    Preference: 1 (1=1 2=0 3=0 4=0 5=0)
Comments: www.delirium.be There is no mystery as to its flavour - it consists of small Morello cherries. This fruity beer excels by its cherry savour, sweetened without saturation, and leaving even a small tone of bitterness in medium and end of palate. It is consumed like all its fruity colleagues, very fresh, and without risk of intoxication given their low alcohol content. The only danger lies in greediness, because it is true that the taste is irresistible and often begs a repetition. Long cherry after-taste.

Cold pressing takes time, but it preserves the sweet, vibrant flavours of freshly picked raspberries and makes juice that is far superior to mass produced concentrates. We then blend this juice with a special beer brewed only with British malt, hops, yeast and water. To enjoy Melville's Raspberry Fruit Beer at its most refreshing we recommend that you serve it chilled over ice. Best poured slowly.
