Comments: www.sharpsbrewery.co.uk The Connoisseur's Choice beers are brewed without compromise. They are produced through the application of the art and science of brewing at the very highest level to create beers which I hope will enrapture the most discerning palate. No.4 Single Brew features US super hop Citra, with its stunning aroma and rounded, fruity bitterness. Brewed with Pale Ale and Carapils malts, the beer is first wort-hopped to a mild bitterness. A judiciously large amount of Citra is then added during a 2 month cold maturation to allow the full beauty of the hop fragrance to infuse the beer. Single Brew Reserve 2012 is excellent as an aperitif or a palate cleanser between courses and is particularly good at lifting citrus flavours. -- Stuart Howe, Head Brewer. This beer is bottle conditioned. The flavour will develop with upright storage in cellar conditions. Settle for a minimum of 12 hours before serving and then pour carefully to avoid disturbing the yeast sediment. Serve the beer in our bespoke Connoisseurs Choice glass or an oversized wine glass or brandy balloon at 8-10C. Contains malted barley.

Comments: www.shepherdneame.co.uk There is a legend at Shepherd Neame that Brilliant Ale was inspired by the vision of the bright early morning sun sending its golden shafts of light through the brewhouse window and onto the oak mash tun, inspiring the brewing team to brew a beer that echoed these hues. Historically this recipe was formulated with 100% pale malt and was bittered by the brewery’s signature East Kent Goldings hops, resulting in a golden, brilliantly bright, hoppy ale which has risen Phoenix-like from the ashes of time for the modern drinker to enjoy. Says head brewer Richard Frost, According to brewery records, Brilliant Ale was first brewed sometime between 1825 and 1855, making it our oldest Classic Collection beer to date. Although we’ve rejuvenated it by using the modern hop variety Cascade, we’re staying true to the spirit of this great pale ale, which was hugely popular in its day.

Knockers were tin mine-dwelling folk who would knock to lead miners to the richest seams, so long as the miners left them a little of their pasties when they ate. Nowadays, we’re pretty sure they can occasionally be heard in local pubs, knocking on the bottles to guide drinkers to the malty golden ale that bears their name. Just remember to leave a sip behind for them. The taste of the delicate floral hops trails citrus with a slight pine bitteness and leaves you with a mild biscuit taste. Posh ones, not your average digestive. A perfect pairing for shellfish, Thai dishes, or a double cheeseburger with fries. It’s said, somewhere way down south, in a cove between St Ives and Padstow, you’ll find a perfect beach, where you can spend hazy, lazy summer days lying in the warm sun with good friends and not a care in the world. And, as the sun begins to sink into the sea, the only thing that could make life any better would be a glass of cool, hop-laden pale ale. This is the place and the moment that Lushingtons was brewed for. Bursting with fruit, within its bittersweet scent you’ll pick up lime and mangoes with a little lychee. And its creamy texture contains a slight strawberry finish. Enjoy with white meats, fish or a 99. Serve cool.
