There's nothing that makes me want to have a cold stout-porter than being with good beer-drinking pals surrounded by tall trees on a cold day in Scotland. This porter was brewed for the Maypole pub, that had requested a porter for their beer festival, which runs alongside the Cambridge Beer Festival every year. So after a lot of reading and some wondering in the malt store I came up with this malty session porter. Contains wheat and barley.

The largest ship the world had ever seen, Isambard Kingdom Brunel's Great Eastern began sea trials on 7 September 1859. Two days later a huge explosion blew off one of her five funnels. The blast, that would have sent a lesser vessel to the bottom, barely checked the great ship's progress. In contrast to thecareful way we brew this beer, the on-board calamity was attributed to a build-up of excess steam.
