PRH-Shogi Variants is intended to introduce board game players to new variants of Shogi (Japanese Chess). It uses text piece names, instead of the more commonly used Japanese kanji characters, to simplify the initial piece recognition.

Minimum System Requirements:

  • 80486 processor
  • Windows 9x
  • 8Mb memory
  • 350Kb space on hard drive for program, HLP, INI and HTM files
  • 2.50Mb for VB6 System Libraries, if not already present
  • VGA screen

Installation:

  • run the SETUP.EXE program in the zip file, and follow the instructions.
  • It may be necessary to set compatibility to Windows 98 or 95.

Notes:

Unfortunately *.hlp (Windows Help) files can no longer be read in Windows 10, but version 6.0 of this program is being developed, and includes a compiled HTML file containing the same instructions, which can be opened within the new version. In the meanwhile I have made available this compiled HTML file here:

  1. Download the compiled HTML file, which are compressed into a zip file (shogiv60_chm.zip).
  2. Extract the contents of of the file you just downloaded (shogiv60_chm.zip), which will open when double-clicked.
