I’m presenting with Peedy at Virtual SAS Global Forum 2021 on 20May2021 at 1600hr (GMT+1), and I will be chatting in a Live Q&A from 1600-1630hr. My presentation is “How Many Shades of Guide: SAS Enterprise Guide to 8.3 and SAS Studio to 3.81 with SAS 9.4: Part 1 – SAS Enterprise Guide”, but it will only include Enterprise Guide due to time constraints. “Part 2 – SAS Studio” will be published at a later date, although the conference paper does include the history of both applications.
Who is Peedy? I can hear you asking, and I can give you a quick preview below, as he appears in my preview video (1:26, 3.19Mb).
He does more in the conference presentation, so please come and cheer him on, and I’ll explain a little more about why he is there!
STOP PRESS: The #SASGF proceedings are now available, and my paper, slides and video link can now be found here.
There are a number of SAS-related jobs in the SAS Jobs Listing this month in the UK and globally, and the links are open to all site visitors:
UK: Pharmaceutical contract positions from CK Clinical.
Global: Pharmaceutical contract positions from ClinChoice.
Please use the links in the SAS Jobs Listing to apply for these positions. All recruiters have contact details and links to their web sites on each job post.
Recruiters looking for candidates
I’m always looking for new recruiters to post SAS-related jobs on this site covering India, UK, the Americas, Europe and the Rest of the World. In particular, I would like to include jobs in Europe and India, where nearly 50% of the registered blog members are located and jobs have been posted for them in the past, but currently these areas have no active recruiters there.
If you have a regular supply of SAS jobs in any of these regions, then there is a free trial which is open to all recruiters, but with 2 simple rules:
The free trial will be extended by an additional calendar month only when a job is posted, and will expire automatically if no job has been posted in a calendar month.
The posted jobs must be in some way SAS-related.
Please register for Free membership, and then send your jobs to phil@hollandnumerics.org.uk before 02Jun2021 to be included in this post next month! You will be manually upgraded to a Recruiter member if you’ve never taken part in this free trial before.
The current regional breakdown of registered blog members is as follows, but note that the SAS Jobs Listing is open to all site visitors:
Last call for articles for VIEWS News 64: Become a VIEWS Consultant in May! I’m planning to publish VIEWS News issue 64 at the end of May 2021, which means that I need you to send me your short SAS-related articles by 17May2021 to views-uk@hollandnumerics.org.uk.
Topics include:
Annoying SAS Programming Styles: I wrote Part 1 in issue 60 about indenting of SAS code, and have added more articles since then. Do you have your own example of an annoying programming style, and how to fix it?
Event previews and reports.
SAS-related book reviews.
Short articles on any SAS-related topics.
All the above examples will entitle the author to refer to themselves as a VIEWS Consultant!
There is also In Brief and Diary sections in each issue containing:
Links to interesting SAS-related web sites.
Announcements of SAS-related events occurring from mid-June onwards.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon…………..Phil

Recruiters looking for candidates
I’m always looking for new recruiters to post SAS-related jobs on this site covering India, UK, the Americas, Europe and the Rest of the World. In particular, I would like to include jobs in India and the Americas, where over 55% of the registered blog members are located and jobs have been posted for them in the past, but currently these areas have no active recruiters there.

The pandemic has impacted us all in many ways, and my presenting has definitely been severely curtailed. However, even though the pandemic has not yet been defeated, I was determined to make my voice heard and my face seen, so I’ve accepted 2 presentation opportunities in the next 2 months:
01Apr2021: SUGUKI have asked me to present “Writing Reusable Macros: Managing SAS Data Sets” at a lunchtime webinar from 1215-1245 (British Summer Time = GMT+1). More details can be found at https://www.meetup.com/SUGUKI, and the Zoom call is limited to 100, so early registration is recommended.
20May2021: Virtual SAS Global Forum 2021 will be including a Premium Session video presentation of “How Many Shades of Guide: SAS Enterprise Guide to 8.3 and SAS Studio to 3.81 with SAS 9.4: Part 1 – SAS Enterprise Guide”. The paper includes the history of both EG and SAS Studio, but time limits necessitated the paper be split into 2 presentations, and this one will be Part 1 only. Look out for Peedy!
I’m not certain when the video presentation will be made public yet, but I’ll be having a live Q&A chat on 20May2021. Keep an eye on the SAS Global Forum web site for more details about when and how to join me.
I’m hoping to publish the Part 2 video later this year, probably on my blog site, which will look at the history of SAS Studio and a comparison with EG.
VIEWS News issue 63 has now been published. It is a little later than planned, but still in Q1!
This newsletter issue contains articles from Anders Sköllermo on batch processing and missing values, and I have added an article on SQL and macro code layout specifically to encourage discussion. As usual I have publicised some SAS-related events for the next few months, and I have also added some more SAS formats, options and functions that you may or may not have come across before, but you might find interesting, and even useful.
If you would like to contribute an article on any SAS topic, or a SAS-related event date from July 2021 onward, to the next issue in May 2021 then please send an email with a description/attachment of your contribution to view-uk@hollandnumerics.org.uk or phil@hollandnumerics.org.uk.
To be able to read this and all previous issues you will need to follow these steps:
If you have not already registered on this blog site, go to blog.hollandnumerics.org.uk and register for free membership.
Once successfully registered, click the menu item [Subscriptions for Forums and Features] > [Request access to the VIEWS UK forum] to request free access to the VIEWS UK forum, then add your name and email address to the form before clicking [Send].
On receipt of a request for an existing blog member I will register them for free access to the VIEWS UK forum, and then send them an email to confirm this.
The next time they log onto the blog site they will see VIEWS UK in the forum list, where you will find the latest issue of VIEWS News, forum topics to find the backissues, functions and formats in every published issue, and a tag cloud covering every forum on the site to which you have access, including VIEWS UK and the VIEWS News issues.
They will also be automatically informed of any VIEWS UK updates.
Over the last few months I had been using Rebalance from Jetpack as the theme for my blog site, but more and more of its features seemed to conflict with my blog content:
Sections of code using uniform fonts in pre-formatted paragraphs were coloured white, so I’d been forced to recolour them black using CSS.
The links in the Forum Tag List were orange, as were the links in the list of selected forum topics. However, hovering over these links changed these and other links to white on white, or orange on orange, due to a conflict with bbPress, my forum plug-in.
Finally, the top menu in Rebalance was shown as a “hamburger” icon on smaller screens, but not on the desktop, so I’d been forced to style this menu using CSS to match the smaller screen version.
I searched the catalogue of WordPress themes to find one that worked on the desktop and smaller screens and could only find the theme I am now using, Twenty Fifteen from WordPress. It also doesn’t require any restyling!
So why did I call it an old theme?
I used this theme when I first created this blog site in 2016. It has just taken me 5 years to realise how good it is!!
